Prepare for your session

The number one thing I would say that will make your recording experience easy and fun is to know your material. Did ya hear that part? Know your material. When you know your songs key, are really familiar with the map of the song, and have the lyrics down, recording can be quick and painless. This mostly comes about because you have practiced the song inside out and upside down.

If you are planning on having several instrument tracks, and need drums,it is an excellent idea to practice with a metronome. You may have to play to a click track or drum beat if your timing is less than stellar. If your initial tracks are all in time, adding extra tracks is simplified. I can lay down a drum beat for you since I am a drummer. I use software drums like BFD, or EZdrummer, and my Zendrum ZX. If you are on a budget, this is a deal, because you are charged for studio time, but I don’t charge you as a studio musician. Two for one!

You may want to bring a snack or a beverage. Singers watch out for dairy or other stuff that will make you all stuffy and yucky.

Now if you want to come in unrehearsed and having only a vague idea of the songs you want to do, that’s fine with me. I charge by the hour! But honestly, I would love to have you in an out of here in an efficient manner, so that you can go out and make more music.
